The thought behind cold food being a possibility to digestion issues is directly related to the body wanting to maintain a core temp of 100 degrees F.

Even if it is hot out and you are craving something cold, your body wants something warm. Generations of grandmothers have passed down eating warm foods and fluids, thinking it would help muscles relax, even the ones that make up our organs.

As it turns out warm foods also are highly preferred by the microbiome in our digestive tract that helps with the final stages of digestion.

So our grandmothers natural intuition was right! Warm foods and fluids are going to make our body feel better, compared to cold foods due to our body naturally trying to maintain a core temperature of hundred degrees F. In the past Fevers were commonly treated with:

-ice baths

-wraps

-water

Ice water is also known to help reduce nausea, while warm fluids help recycle the stomach membrane. It can seem confusing to try and figure out what remedy works best for you, however only you will know what makes you feel the best and different things work better for different people.

Food for thought: What household remedies do you use to help bring down a fever?
